Runaway Youth

When youth run away from home or a placement they expose themselves to extreme danger.  The chances of youth being victimized skyrocket when they run away.

As a CASA, it is more likely that your youth will contact you after they have run away form a placement.  Therefore, you should be able to discuss options with them that can keep them as safe as possible.

Here are some resources that can inform your advocacy:

Homeless and Runaway Youth: Selected Resources 2008  A helpful compendium of links, studies, books and other resources on the issue in California.

Right to Shelter Law Fact Sheet  In California, youth have a right to have shelter without parental consent, this fact sheet explains it.
