Policy ForumsCalCASA engages with policy makers at the highest level. We share with them the insight of CASA staff and volunteers and the expertise of our work. CalCASA has had representatives on virtually every statewide policy forum, including: California Child Welfare Council The Child Welfare Leadership and Performance Accountability Act of 2006 established within the California Health and Human Services Agency the California Child Welfare Council, an advisory body that would be responsible for improving the collaboration and processes of the multiple agencies and courts that serve children and youth in the child welfare and foster care systems. Robin Allen is a Councilmember. Blue Ribbon Commission on Children in Foster Care The California Blue Ribbon Commission on Children in Foster Care is charged with "providing recommendations to the California Judicial Council on the ways in which the courts and their partners can improve safety, permanency, well-being, and fairness outcomes for children and families." Robin Allen is a Commissioner. California Child Welfare Services Redesign This Redesign was a three-year process (from 2000-2003) that developed a long-term strategic plan to put California child welfare on an improved path. The Redesign stakeholders were charged with building on effective child welfare practices inside the state and elsewhere and recommending comprehensive, integrated system changes to improve outcomes for children and families.
